My project topic is animal rights.

First and Secondary Researches

Key Conference Missions:
• Exposing animal abuses for food, research,
amusement, fashion, and more
• Training attendees in personal growth and organizing
• Offering opportunities to network and connect
with other activists
• Providing a forum to potential movement leaders

After researching, I learn more about animal rights. At first,
I only think animal rights are only thinking about animals and
caring about them. But the fact is very serious and important.

Installation art

The installation art from this artist have lots of details. He created new life of animal world. The materials he used are paper pulps, electric wires, metals and the old electric components. That’s get me a lot of ides to complete my work. I really like the crocodile he created because the body is exaggerated and balance.

Each animals from his art works have a strange and thrilling resonance. He combined animals and mechanical elements together to create unique illustrations. I like the leopard best because the power and strength of this animal are shown completely in this art work. I can feel the leopard roars in a voice of thunder. The artist not only caught the leopard face perfectly, but also used the metals take the place of the body. This idea inspires me add some machines into my final outcome.

I also read a book called animal machine. It was written by
Ruth Harrison. The book talked about although the
technology is developing quickly and the global population
increases nowadays, the animals are cruelly treated. I got a
lot inspirations from this book and let it become one part of
my project.

Drawing/ practice

At the beginning of the project, I did not decide what should I draw. I just want to show animals have the same thoughts like humans. So I draw eight animals and combine with human hands.

Before starting the final outcome, I kept practicing sketching some animals (right of the page) because I seldom drew them. During drawing, I learn a lot about the structure of the animals.

My idea is to combine the animals and machines.
Some people does not care about the death of
animals and animals are cruelly treated by them.
In their eyes, animals are like machines. They do
not have feelings and thoughts.
In the above sketches, I tried to make the draft of
bird, elephant and fish. And I choose the fish one
as my final outcome. At first, I want to add the
hands of people, but it was not fit the composition.
So I but some little decorations like lemons,
tomatoes, a knife and a fork to show it is a dish.
And I want to show the serious of animals rights,
so I highlighted the red and make the fish become
black and white.
