Topic: Guilt
Enquiry
I choose to make guilt my second theme. When I watch videos or play games for a whole day, I feel anxious because I don’t have work. Even if I have already completed what I should have done. I think there must also be people like me who are surrounded by guilt in this society. I know we should not dwell on the past, but should face the things in front of us. People cannot all be perfect, we should choose to forgive ourselves and reconcile with ourselves.

I think the first step in solving guilt is to recognize oneself and what choices one will make. I found some photography topics about mirrors, and I think they will be very helpful for my project.

I felt very confused and uneasy before making the project. So I conducted one-on-one tutoring. After this guidance, I realized what I should do and clarified my goals. My supervisor introduced me to many surveys that I should do, which helped me better understand my topic. In addition, I also know that we should make more use of the nature of hand drawing to create and record our current emotions.

I really like this work because the artist incorporates the image of guilt into the picture. Showing its dark and terrifying nature. Without complex visuals and lines, the concise composition made me clearly feel the gloom of the picture. I gained inspiration from my work and I also want to try creating music with this style.

This painting expresses the guilt painting of the time. Scrase said “painted with abbreviated brushstrokes, marked chiaroscuro and the muted palette (characteristic of his final period) has an overwhelming sense of pathos and guilt.” (Scrase. D, 2016) I felt the emotions of the characters through his painting. Sad, excited mood can obviously feel the image of the character. I hope I can also show the dynamics of characters in my works, so this work gives me a lot of references.

This Artwork show when a person realises or believes—accurately or not—that they have compromised their own standards of behaviour or have violated a moral standard and carry major responsibility for that breach, they experience guilt, which can be cognitive or emotional. I love this abstract style. Both the material and brush strokes of the oil painting can feel the theme of crime, so I became aware of the possibility of hand drawing.

In Miles Johnston website it said, “Instead of focusing on literal representations of the world, I depict the surreal and abstract qualities of our subjectivity with the goal of creating works with a deep emotional Resonance.” I was inspired by the surreal style. The artwork on the left represents sin in the form of a snake. It shows the helplessness and emptiness of women. Delicate brushwork and accurate structure make the picture look rich and complete. If you look closely at the top of the frame, you can see the light emerging from the water. The proof that this is an underwater image highlights the fear, the confusion, the insecurity. The artwork on the right depicts a man sinking in water with many hands floating on the surface. I can feel the feeling of helplessness and still struggle. I think it is very powerful that hand drawing can achieve such fine degree. Through his works, I think my theme can be expressed through different scenes and elements, even if it is unrealistic.

“The root of suffering has a noble purpose: the evolution of consciousness, the devolution of form, and the disintegration of ego. ”

Exhibition | Susanne Hangaard Investigates Feminine Shame and Guilthttps://cfileonline.org/exhibition-susanne-hangaard-investigates-feminine-shame-guilt/
“As a woman, Hangaard’s work is visceral and direct, plunging into the feminine soul. Nearly universal concepts of feminine shame and guilt of how we perceive ourselves and how we perceive others wash over evoking a empathetic sense of sadness, mourning for our our fellow women.” (Jones.W 2017)This is an installation about female shame and guilt, and although it’s a little different from the core of my theme, I think it has some connection and can help me create. His work reminds me that being a woman also brings about different feelings of guilt. Different physiological structure and living environment produce different psychological effects. She used her living environment to create an installation using ceramics. I think there’s a lot of art that comes out of different cultures.

Oswaldo Guayasamin was an Ecuadorian artist whose work is characterized by its Cubist-styled depictions of Latin American people. The artist focused especially on portraying the rampant oppression, poverty, and political strife he witnessed growing up in the region.

These are some sketches before formal creation. I have drawn the picture in my mind. Using pen and charcoal to directly depict. The up- per left corner is a sketch of a trip. I think when I sketch, more and more ideas are wandering in my mind, gradually forming a whole. This is a great help for me. They helped me complete the final work.
Process

This is the process of some lines and dividing small objects. Before doing the loop animation, I first had a brief under- standing of some layering that animation needs to pay attention to. I have divided the ob-jects that need to be moved in detail to make them more natural. This is a patient and necessary step.
Knowledge

I have learned some usage methods for after effect. For example, how to anchor the blinking of the eyes, how to introduce music, and some knowledge about the timeline. I really enjoy the process of learning new things, so when I truly realize my ideas, I am very excited.I hope that in my future works, I can also use after effect to learn more things.

This is the final product and I uploaded the video to YouTube for easy viewing. I added music to blend it into the visuals. I realize that appropriate music choices can enhance the visual effect of videos. It can enhance the sense of rhythm, dynamism, or drama in the picture, and give more layers and tension to the picture. The rhythm and melody of music can be echoed with the movements and editing in the screen, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

I am thinking about what my videos can be applied to. I think social media is a great choice. Because social media is one of the most effective means of communication. I can put my works on some popular science websites. Because these websites usually attract audiences interested in knowledge and learning. Science popularization website is a platform that focuses on scientific knowledge and learning. Displaying my videos on such a website can attract audiences interested in knowledge and learning.
Communication

I have received some comments that I believe are very relevant suggestions and helpful to me. Through these comments, I believe that my grasp of the topic is not deep enough. It doesn’t make people immediately understand what I want to express. So in the next creation, I should deepen my communication with others and correct my shortcomings as soon as possible.
Reflection
I think my biggest weakness is my lack of sensitivity to art, and I think this is something I should strengthen. In life, I should discov- er beauty more, experience beauty more, and think more about what we really need? We need to learn to discover beauty. I think we should return to ourselves, communicate more with family and teachers. Only in this way can one achieve better development.
I spent too much time exploring things that I should be interested in, and I believe these are all due to the passage of time caused by not observing myself well. So I should record my emotions about important things so that I can easily recall them.
Overall, this video is still the one I enjoy the most, and I know that I enjoy making such videos. And it incorporates many elements that I like. I hope to explore more knowledge in video production.
